Our work is not possible without our dedicated volunteers. Between our Community First Center and our Overflow Shelter, volunteers are at the heart of our work with the men and women in our city experiencing homelessness.
Each evening between December 1 and March 31, our overnight Overflow Shelters are places of rest and renewal for Winston-Salem’s citizens who do not have a pillow to comfort their heads at night. Volunteers serve meals, check guests in, or stay overnight providing a safe place for our guests to sleep. Sign up to help support our ongoing work to provide welcome and respite to our city's most vulnerable individuals.
During the day, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11am, our volunteers work to build community with our guests by providing hospitality, engaging in conversation with our guests and getting to know them, and through supporting therapeutic programming. We offer Art Therapy, Tai Chi, Yoga, and Eco-Therapy. Our programs provide support for persons in recovery and also allow the men and women we work with to begin the process of healing from trauma. Come check out this evolving, innovative approach to solving the crisis of homelessness.
