Cleaning Tips For Aluminum Windows

Aluminum windows look good and last long and need much less maintenance compared to other kinds of windows. But, do not let that give you the idea that you can simply install the windows and forget about them completely. Aluminum windows still need some amounts of cleaning and maintenance for them to last long.

Cleaning Tips

Use a solution of mild detergent and lukewarm water to clean the frames regularly using a soft-bristled brush or a cloth. Remove any marking on the powder-coated surface using a paraffin-based or non-abrasive cream cleanser. Hydrocarbon-based or chlorinated cleaners or any abrasive polish should not get used under any condition. You can use ink erasers for removing stubborn marks if you have anodized frames bought from an Aluminum Windows Factory.

Maintenance Tips

Maintaining Tracks: Brush gravel and dirt out of the channels where the sashes slide. It is important to clean the tracks of aluminum sliding windows so that they go smoothly. A vacuum cleaner with a nozzle attachment is also good enough for this.

Removing Mildew: You might notice tiny mildew developing on the outer side of the aluminum frames. Mix 2/3 cup of tri-sodium phosphate and 1/3 cup of detergent powder with three-quarters of water, a bit of bleach, and rinse with brush and clear water. You will know the solution is working if bubbles come up after applying the solution.

Locks: The profile cylindrical keys and locks need to get cleaned and lubricated on a regular basis for ensuring the optimum performance of the locks of the aluminum windows. Apply a bit of light lubricant to the key and take it in and out of locks a couple of times to make the oil pass in the locking system.
