Skollie shifts 2026

Skollie assists all wheeled vehicles, including mutants, service vehicles, and private vehicles, to ensure safe navigation at AfrikaBurn. Responsibilities include:

  • Skollie volunteers assist to direct new arrivals on site find their way to their camps, direct them and point out the parking areas etc

  • Skollie do general site wide patrols, eyes and ears to keep Mutants happy and safe

  • Setting Mutant Perimeters at large burns 30 paces outside fire perimeter, keep all wheels out of pedestrian fire perimeter, evacuation corridors and away from fire crew gear and areas.

  • Assist movement and deployment of large rigs on the Binnekring,

  • Monitor service vehicles, mobile stages, and mutants

  • Acting as eyes and ears for VOC, responding to situations requiring intervention Senior or Lead Skollies:

  • Volunteers: Patrol on foot or monitor from their mutant, serving as extra observers.

  • Supporting the mutant community in safe operation and navigation


Training

  • Volunteers: Receive guidance on observation and escalation without direct engagement.

  • Basic training and orientation will happen on site and as recruits get deployed

  • Radio Protocol training

  • What to look out for, how to report it - ID - Location - transgression/concern etc.
