Please only sign up for shifts that you can 100% commit to. Completing a registration indicates you agree to volunteer for that time slot FULLY. The Rice Business Plan Competition is known for its excellence - partly due to our AMAZING volunteers. Volunteer slots include registration, round assistants, gatekeepers, and more! Plan to attend one volunteer orientation to understand the competition, rules, and and expectations.

Gatekeeper/Alternate Moderator
SEMI-FINAL and WILDCARD ROUNDSYou MUST be available for the entire time slot (8:15 AM - 11:30 AM) to serve as the Gatekeeper or Moderator. You'll step in as the moderator, if needed.Gatekeepers: Be familiar with assigned competition teams and schedules, assist volunteers who are unable to leave the room during judging, monitor rooms during recesses and be ready to take over the moderator role in certain circumstances.Moderator: Answer any questions regarding rules from judges or teams, moderate questions directed at competitors, explain the schedule and format before every event, signal competitors to indicate remaining time and open and close all sessions.
